"We do not say goodbye. We say Namárië. It means more than simply farewell. It means, 'go towards goodness.'"
- Elrond, Rings of Power

Into the city we go |
Today's plan is to explore a little bit of downtown Lisbon.
On our way to Castelo de S. Jorge |
View from Castelo de S. Jorge |
Medium sized cannon |
You wanted castle? I give you castle. |
There are epic hiding spots all over to protect archers against attackers.
Excavation of the inner courtyard |
Excavation has led to the discovery of ancient artifacts going back to the 5th century. This plot of land has been occupied for quite some time.
The first wheel? |
It's not that old, but still.
Cat House |
I'm pretty sure I saw a bird fly into this... there was a cat watching us nearby.
The moat |
This was honestly the most stereotypical medieval castle one could hope for. And it's right in the heart of Lisbon
Oil lamps |
popbar |
We stopped by this New York based franchise for some hot cocoa. They don't have any yet in Utah and I thought about opening a franchise, but I guess I need $300,000 dollars first 😐
Grumpy Face |
Hot Cocoa |
They heat up the milk and give you a chocolate bar on a stick to melt. Upon discovering the bar of chocolate at the end of the stick, I promptly ate it, leaving myself with a cup of warm milk. Hot chocolate is too complicated these days. Where's my Swiss Miss?
Trolley Car |
The first trolley cars were imported from the United States and were pulled by horses. Lisbon is a city built on a hill, so these trams save people from a long uphill walk. The one we hopped on still had the original wood trim inside.
Metro |
We went down four some-odd escalators just to get down here. I felt like I was entering a mineshaft.
Marquês de Pombal
Out to lunch with Inés |
We went to a Japanese buffet with a friend of Carlos.
Octopus |
I like to think they only cut off one of the arms and this octopus is still happily crawling the ocean floor. I also tried duck here for the first time. Both were delicious, especially the duck.
Hot Sushi |
The far right are crispy pineapple maki rolls and they were amazing. I'll be honest, I was counting the point values of everything we ordered @Tyler @Paul
I guess Lisbon inspires 💁 |
Parque Eduardo VII |
More cool sidewalk designs |
Iscte University |
We stopped by Iscte becuase Carlos had a meeting to attend. I took a nap in the library.
Santa Justa Lift |
Built in the 19th century as part of Lisbon's public transportation. Like I said, a city built on a mountain. It reminds me of the elevator in Oregon City.

A picture in front of Carlos' favorite club |
That concludes my trip to Lisbon. I doubt that's the last we'll see of Carlos, but it's farewell for now and time for me to get back to school 😬
enjoyed the photos. GG
